Although Forrester Creations was already a successful design house of high-class fashions, it was Brooke Logan's discovery of the BeLieF formula that brought Forrester Creations greater recognition. BeLieF was a breakthrough formula, which was used to make fabrics such as silk and cotton wrinkle-free. Proud of his wife's accomplishments, Eric made the grand gesture of naming BeLieF in her honor -- using the initials of her full name, Brooke Logan Forrester. He also thought it would be the perfect way of keeping Brooke in their marriage, which was slowly falling apart.
However, during this time, Brooke's old feelings for Ridge were beginning to resurface, and Eric was desperate to hold onto his wife. Fearing that Brooke was going to leave him, Eric tried to obtain a patent on the formula she created, until he was informed by his attorney that there wasn't a legal contract binding Brooke to the family company. As the inventor, Brooke was the sole owner of BeLieF, so any legal claim was hers. Knowing the value of the formula and the future profits it would eventually bring the company, the Forresters tried to trick Brooke into giving up all rights to her miracle creation. Brooke was furious when she was informed of their deceptions, and the battle only heated up!
From the moment they first met, Stephanie had always hated Brooke, but this time, the Forrester matriarch felt that Brooke had gone too far. Although Brooke was no longer living with Eric, Ridge had moved on with his life and married Dr. Taylor Hayes. In Stephanie's desire to reconcile with ex-husband Eric, she threw a dinner party and invited Brooke so that she would be agreeable to signing over control of BeLieF. Brooke arrived with her date, attorney Connor Davis, who was also an old high school friend of Ridge's. Never knowing Stephanie to be so outwardly kind and friendly towards Brooke, Connor grew suspicious of her true intentions.
Meanwhile, Eric had devised his own method of disarming Brooke and obtaining the rights to the BeLieF formula. After sending Ridge to Monte Carlo, per Eric's request, he had his attorney, Steve Crown, pose as a masseur and ingratiate himself into Brooke's life. When Connor informed Brooke that the Forresters weren't being straightforward, she became livid at Eric and Ridge's duplicity. While in Monte Carlo, Taylor began to realize that Ridge still held some very strong feelings for his former love, Brooke, and told him he had to make a decision about their future one way or the other. Upon returning to Los Angeles, Ridge cozied up to Brooke in an effort to get her to sign away the patent for the BeLieF formula. Realizing this was an opportunity to get back together with Ridge, Brooke willingly signed the contract, only to be later informed that Ridge had no intentions of leaving his wife for her. Stephanie lorded it over Brooke that not only had she lost Ridge, she also signed away her rights to the BeLieF formula. Losing to Stephanie was devastating for Brooke, until Connor discovered something wasn't quite right with the contract she had signed. Brooke revealed that she had only signed one copy of the document, making it very clear that Ridge had walked away with an unsigned copy. Therefore, Brooke still owned the BeLieF formula, and as a result, had the upper hand against the Forresters.
At Connor's urging, Brooke intended to make the Forresters pay for trying to deceive her. Brooke called for a meeting, and in front of Eric, Ridge and Stephanie, she shredded the signed document she possessed and vowed that there were going to be some big changes at the Forrester offices. Fearing that Brooke was on the warpath, Eric took full blame for all the deceptions and pleaded with her to not let this battle affect the lives of their two children, Rick and Bridget. Brooke relented and agreed to relinquish her rights to the formula but only on several conditions. Brooke wanted a personal apology from Stephanie -- which she finally got -- and the promise that the Forrester family would never mislead her again. As she was about to sign away her rights, Steve walked into the office and Brooke wondered what her masseur was doing at the Forrester offices. Connor realized that Steve was a fellow attorney and working for the Forresters. An enraged Brooke slapped Steve, and feeling duped again, she refused to sign. Stephanie came forward and slapped Brooke as well, but this time, Brooke retaliated, and an all-out battle began. Brooke declared that she would never give up her claim to the BeLieF formula.
After hiring a new attorney, Eric offered Brooke ten million dollars in exchange for BeLieF, which she initially refused to accept. With Connor's help, Brooke made a counter-offer. She would sign over BeLieF in exchange for the office of her choice, an expense account, a full-time driver and, finally, 51 percent of the stock in Forrester Creations. Naturally, the Forresters balked at the last demand, until their lawyer advised them to reconsider the offer to avoid any future conflicts and the destruction of their company. At long last, Brooke Logan Forrester was sitting on top of the world!
